In this round table we will talk about the collective imagination and the interrelationships with the world of the seventh art towards the figure of the Witch. In addition, we will present a study that investigates this, made for the occasion by Carme Puche and Sergio Álvarez-Napagao making thoughtful use of Artificial Intelligence.

Carme Puche Moré

Director and screenwriter. She has worked in journalism for more than fifteen years before devoting herself to journalism. His career as a filmmaker began with “Camille” (Best Screenplay New Authorship - Sitges Film Festival 2011) and continued with several fiction pieces such as “Ferrying Fee”, “La benvinguda” (selected in more than 20 international festivals) or “The feathers” (First prize La mida no importa 2022). In the documentary field, in 2014 she released the feature film "The Jump!" at the IN-EDIT Film Festival and in 2022 she has presented “Minshara” at the D'A and at the Biennial of Thought (CCCB, Dones Visuals). He is currently working on his second feature documentary, "Totes les mares", with a scholarship for screenwriting from the Department of Culture, and on projects that dialogue with artificial intelligence such as 'My Word' (Tuesday selection of Santa Mònica video, official +Rain selection Film Fest, and part of the 'IA' exhibition at the Barbican Center and the CCCB). She is vice president of Dones Visuals and mother of two children.

Magdalena Oliver

Graduate in Journalism from the UAB. She specializes in content search and as a scriptwriter for audiovisual products. He began working on entertainment programs with the production company Gestmusic, later went on to work on radio magazines at COM Ràdio and Ona Catalana, before returning to television with the program Els Matins on TV3 (Ondas Award for best news program 2005), directed by Josep Cuni. In recent years, among other projects, she has been deputy director and scriptwriter of the social-themed program Radio Gaga (Movistar +, Ondas Award for Best Current Affairs Program 2018); of the documentary series Pioneras (Movistar+, 2020) about women who were made invisible despite their great contributions to our history, and of the documentary series Alexia, Labor Omnia Vincit (Amazon Prime, nominated for the 2023 International Emmy for Best Sports Documentary). In 2022 she was deputy director and scriptwriter of the documentary Bruixes, la gran mentida ('Sense Ficció', TV3; Laya Award from the Generalitat de Catalunya, special mention at the CIRCOM Awards 2023), with the aim of explaining the reality that more than a thousand women who were murdered in Catalonia, accused of a crime that never existed: witchcraft. The witch hunt was the first major feminicide in history and Catalonia played a sadly decisive role.

Sergio Álvarez-Napagao

Cinematographer of the feature documentary The Jump (2013) and multiple shorts (Camille, La Benvinguda, Ferrying Fee, among others). He is currently a professor at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, teaching computing and artificial intelligence at two degrees. He combines this with a senior researcher position at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center, within the High Performance Artificial Intelligence research group.

Vibha Daryanani has formalized her audiovisual studies in England (University of Brighton), completing her doctoral thesis on Spanish film production in Barcelona (2017, Blanquerna) followed by the publication of the Low Cost Production Manual How to make your first film without dying in the attempt (2021, UOC Publishing). She has worked in various audiovisual production companies, advertising and event agencies in London, Paris, Barcelona and New York, developing advertisements, music videos, short films and feature films. She has also worked as a coordinator at film festivals such as ÉCU, The European Independent Film Festival in Paris, Musiclip Festival and Mecal, the Barcelona International Short Film and Animation Festival. Without forgetting that she has also been production manager for internal filming at the Cannes festival (2013), the Colors channel (India) and IIFA Madrid 2016 (Indian International Film Awards). She has also been Jurat Jove of the Sitges Film Festival 2016, Short of the Year Promofest 2017 and Craft Film Festival 2018. She was in charge of her production company Mango Lassi Productions in which she performed the functions of production and service production director. Most recently she has worked in publishing for The Wall Street Journal, production and sales of documentaries for English teaching with DLA, and management and sales of rights at Dorna for MotoGP. She currently works for DICOM Events.
