The Juniper Tree

Fascinating cult classic that introduces the artist Bjork. A witch tale that highlights female emancipation within the context of Nordic folklore.

At the end of the Middle Ages, young Margit (Björk) and her older sister Katla flee to the mountains after the death of their mother, who was burned for witchcraft. Both find refuge with Jóhann, a widower who lives with his little son Jónas. While Katla tries to seduce the peasant, Margit and Jónas become good friends. But the little boy is convinced that Katla is a witch and hates her deeply.
