Cinefòrum: “Häxan: Witchcraft Through Time”, by Benjamin Christensen (Sweden, 1922)
Cult film that sparked the instant interest of the Surrealists and, subsequently, of many other artists interested in the occult. Between mockumentary and horror film not without dark humor, the film traces the history of witchcraft and explores the scientific hypothesis that witches of the Middle Ages actually suffered from the same hysteria as psychiatric patients of the contemporary era.
